This article explains three different ways of making lather from shaving cream, either tube or bowl.

I'll try to keep it simple. Here are two different shaving creams, in the tube and in the bowl. Like in a soap lathering guide Illustrated guide to making basic soap lather I'll use a basic pure badger brush (Tweezerman) to create a starter version of making lather.
Fill the bowl full of tap hot water. No need to use a boiling water because it could harm your brush. I like to stand the brush in to water instead of throwing it in. This saves the wooden handle when it doesn't soak in the hot water. Soak the bristles 5 minutes or more to get the proper absorption of water. Now it's great time to take a shower.
Give a good squeeze to your brush just to get rid of the worthless dripping water. I like to adjust the amount of water later with the bowl.
Shaving cream (tube)
Here is the option one how to make a lather from a tube cream.

Press the tube and get a little amount of cream in the bowl. No need to take too much cream as it won't make your lather any better.
Go on and lather starts to appear
Sweep the edges and gather all in the center
Looks good already but we need more. Add more water in the bowl but be careful not to add too much. I say that the precise amount is about one tablespoon. Remember that you can always add more water in the lather but you can't take it away.
Now the lather looks quite a wet but don't be afraid of that. Keep on swirling.
Again sweep the edges and swirl repeat the steps what you done first. Swirl...swirl...and swirl
Now it's ready and there's enough of proper lather
Much easier to take a picture from my hand than from my face.
Shaving cream (bowl) and finger dip
Here is the option two how to make a lather from a bowl cream with finger dip
- widths="200px"
In here you can see how small amount of cream you need to get a same result
Sweep it in to your brush
Go on and lather starts to appear but there is not enough of it
Add a teaspoon of water and repeat swirling
Shaving cream (bowl) with a brush dip
Here is the option three how to make a lather from a bowl cream with a brush dip
- widths="200px"
Take a three finger grip from your brush to prevent bristles spreading and dip the brush gently in to cream.
There you go. Some creams are so soft like this TOBS rose that sometimes I take too much a cream. That's not a end of the world you can simply sweep some of it back to the bowl or keep on going. Only difference is that you might need a more water later to get a proper mixture.
Go on and lather starts to appear
Repeat steps 4 to 8 (from tube cream) until
And there is plenty of it
22. At last I rinse the brush, squeeze & shake it vigorously and let it dry out upside down.
