Please note that everything mentioned in this text is not set in stone. We are human beings and our needs, habits, personal interests and many other things are so individual from each of us that you should use your learning abilities and see what works best for you.

== Background ==
It is somehow quite hard to describe the differences by pictures and or by videos but I have added these in to the text just to give you as much information as possible. Aftershaves are really a personal thing due to scents, feelings, stings to like or not, climate demands and so on...

I have chosen six aftershaves in the comparison. These six aftershaves represent different kind of products and are therefore in this article. I like to use them all with different kind of meaning. None of them are not over the others for me, they are just different. My basic use is as follows: First splash and after that a stronger balm or creme. Here in Finland we have such a dry climate in winter that basic balm is not enough. That is why I like to use heavier stuff. In summertime balms are better due to warmer weather.

==What do aftershaves look like?==

Image:proraso splash.jpg | Proraso splash. This splash is very typical aftershave. Many people understand the word "aftershaves" that it is transparent or slightly colored solid liquid. There are lots of old drugstore classic aftershaves e.g. Tabac, Old spice, Mennen/Skin Bracer, Brut and so on in the market. And as much as classic aftershaves there are mid level and so called "high end" aftershaves too. They all are aiming to the same target to soothing the skin, closing the pores, prevent irritation, prevent infections. These splashes are famous to make a more or less sting during using.

Image:nivea balm.jpg | Nivea cooling balm. This is very typical aftershave balm. Balms are in between the splashes and creams and they are mainly more like a lotions. Nivea has many kind of balms for individual use; cooling, sensitive skin, moisturising etc. Balm offers a more moisturising properties and longer lasting effects than splashes.

Image:444 balm.jpg | 444 balm. This balm is more like a gel. Transparent but affect same way like a balms. Long lasting and very good moisturising effect. just a few drops and you can cover  your whole face. Really long lasting stuff despite of a small tube.

Image:skin food.jpg | G.F. Trumpers Limes Skin food. Skin food is a  some sort of "skin sealer" it leaves a subtle film on the skin which feeds and protects the skin. I don't use it purely either always after splashes and/or balms.

Image:proraso cream 1.jpg | Proraso pre shave cream what one can use like a post cream too. Strong eucalyptys and menthol scent which overwhelm pretty much everything under that.

Image:nivea creme 1.jpg | Nivea intensive moisturising creme. This creme is not exactly an aftershave but I took it in because it's pretty effective in cold climate area (where I live). I don't use it purely always after splashes.

You can avoid that by leaving your hands a little wet and after that take only a little amount of cream. Cream is really well water soluble. The plain cream is better for pre shaving.

'''Nivea moisturising creme''' is an option for 444 balm. Easy to get from almost any drugstore and does a better moisturising than basic balms. No need to use much. A little goes long way.
