Making a quick and easy stand for finishing scales

I was finishing some scales with CA today and remembered the wire stand that Glen had made. I didn't have the materials at hand to duplicate his, but I did have some jumbo paper clips that I thought might be a good substitute. They worked real well and could probably be made even sturdier by stapling them to a piece of scrap wood.

• Here's what I did:
• 

  Jumbo paper clip

• 

  Bend the smaller, inside, leg straight up.

• 

  Bend the outer leg outward 45 degrees.

• 

  Bend the other leg out 45 degrees to meet.

• 

  Bend two ninety degree angles to prevent the clip from going entirely through the scale.

• 

  Make a second stand.

• 

  Mount the scales using the pre-drilled pin holes and you're ready to go.
